A patient with a stroke or a brain injury faces multiple difficulties. Starting from inability to move his limbs, tightness/ spasticity , unable to perform activities that he would normally do, painful sensations etc. 

 

If left untreated, the limbs and body parts will get deformed and contracted. The patient will fall whenever he tries to walk unassisted. Turning over in bed, changing clothes, bathing, ablutions etc. 

  Another more serious yet unattended issue is the caregiver's fatigue, both bodily and mental. The caregiver may have multiple body injuries trying to move or help the stroke patient around. 

 

Keeping in view of all these concerns, the stroke and brain injury clinic addresses all problems in a systematic manner. 

 

Here we utilize various older as well as the latest technologies. 

Starting with physiotherapy sessions, we perform alcohol/ phenol neurolysis for spasticity. Robotic hands for hand functions, treadmill body supported training for gait training, shoulder arm exercise table, virtual reality glasses for interactive sessions, hand dexterity table, peg board, supination pronation machine, shoulder pulley, wall ladder, and many more.

 

 

 

For fun and refreshing events in treatment, video games are added for those interested. It helps patients to offset boredom. 

 

Many orthoses or splints are utilized to keep the limbs in proper positions or to enhance functional movements. Awareness lessons for spouses and caregivers are also done periodically. 

Occupational therapy sessions for day to day activity learning, dressings, mobility inside and outside the houses, etc are also incorporated.
